SYNC Support

Help with SYNC, the messenger for chats, voice messages and calls.

Need help? Write to us — a person reads every message.

Email:

We usually reply within two working days, in English or Russian. Reports of abuse are reviewed within 24 hours.

Contact support

Write to , if possible from the email address of your SYNC account. Tell us what happened, your device (iPhone or Mac) and its system version, and add a screenshot if it helps. Never send us your password, a sign-in code or your recovery key: we will never ask for them.

Report abuse and block someone

Chats are end-to-end encrypted, so we cannot read a reported message ourselves: describe what is wrong in the reason you type, or email us a screenshot. Our moderators review every report within 24 hours, and remove content and suspend or close accounts that break the Terms of Use. An automatic filter also refuses names, group names and descriptions — and messages in chats that are not end-to-end encrypted — that contain slurs, threats or terms linked to the sexual exploitation of children. If someone is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number first.

Delete your account

In the app: Settings › Account › Delete account, then confirm with your password or with the code we email you. Deletion is permanent. You are signed out on every device at once and can no longer sign in; within 30 days at the latest, the messages you sent are removed from every chat and the files you uploaded are deleted from our servers and storage. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

If you can no longer sign in, write to from the account’s email address and we will delete the account for you.

Frequently asked questions

Is SYNC end-to-end encrypted?

Chats are: messages, photos, videos, files and voice messages are encrypted on your device, and only the people in the chat can read them — not us. A chat’s info page shows whether it is end-to-end encrypted. Calls are encrypted on their way, but not yet end to end; the call screen tells you so. Our servers still see who talks to whom and when, and names and photos of people and groups. The Privacy Policy explains the details.

What is the recovery key, and why should I keep it?

It unlocks the encrypted backup of your message keys, so that a new iPhone or Mac can read your earlier messages. SYNC offers to save it in iCloud Keychain, or you can copy or print it. We never receive it: if you lose it and every device you are signed in on, your earlier encrypted messages cannot be read again — by you or by us.

How do I sign in?

Enter your email address and the code we email you, use a passkey, or use your password if you set one. A code works for 10 minutes. If your account has two-step verification, SYNC then asks for the code from your authenticator app.

How do I turn a voice message into text?

Tap Transcribe next to the voice message. The first time, SYNC downloads its speech model (about 650 MB); after that, voice messages are turned into text on your device, in encrypted chats too. The recording and the text never leave your device, and the text is never added to the chat. You can turn transcription off in Settings › Assistant and privacy.

Can someone turn my voice message into text?

Yes: anyone you send a voice message to can transcribe it on their own device; nothing is sent to us. If you do not want that, send a text message instead.

What is the assistant?

An optional helper on iPhone that finds follow-ups and tasks in your chats and answers questions about them. It is off until you turn it on in Settings › Assistant and privacy › Local assistant, runs on your iPhone with a model you download (about 2.7 GB, over Wi-Fi unless you allow mobile data), and sends nothing to us. Turning it off erases its data; you can also delete the model.

What is “Without internet”?

With Settings › Without internet on, iPhones nearby that have SYNC with the same setting on pass each other’s encrypted text messages over Bluetooth, so messages can arrive where there is no network. The phones that carry them cannot read them. It is off unless you turn it on, and it works only when enough phones are close by.

How do calls work?

Open a chat’s info and tap Call or Video to start a voice or video call, one-to-one or in a group. SYNC needs access to the microphone, and to the camera for video calls. Incoming calls ring on the lock screen like phone calls. SYNC cannot be used to call emergency services.

A call does not ring or does not connect.

Check that SYNC may use the microphone (and the camera for video) in your device’s Settings, that notifications for SYNC are allowed, and that a Focus mode is not silencing calls. Try again on Wi-Fi or mobile data if one of them is restricted. If it keeps happening, write to us with the time of the call.

Notifications do not arrive.

Check that notifications for SYNC are allowed in your device’s Settings and in SYNC › Settings › Notifications and sounds, that the chat is not muted, and that a Focus mode is not silencing them. If they still do not arrive, write to us.

Can I hide the message text in notifications?

Yes. Turn off Settings › Notifications and sounds › Show notification text; notifications then say only “New message”. Either way, the message text never passes through Apple’s notification service: your device decrypts the message itself.

The email with my code or link did not arrive.

Check your spam folder and the address you typed, then ask for a new code; a code works for 10 minutes, an activation link for 7 days. Open links from our emails on the device where SYNC is installed.

I forgot my password.

Sign in with a code sent to your email instead, or tap Forgot password? on the sign-in screen and open the link from the email on your device.

How do I add a contact?

Tap Add contact to show your QR code or link, scan someone else’s code, invite someone by email, or hold two iPhones close together with Nearby. You can also find people on SYNC by name or username.

Who can use SYNC, and what does it cost?

SYNC is for people aged 16 or older, on iPhone with iOS 18 or later. It is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases.
